Why website leasing transforms your website from a liability into an asset

Your website is your most important marketing tool—it’s often the first impression potential customers get of your business. But while many business owners focus on the upfront cost of getting online, the reality is that the real costs—and headaches—come after the website is live. From ongoing maintenance to unexpected updates, owning a website can quickly become a drain on your time and resources. Let’s look at some of the biggest challenges website owners face.

Challenge #1

High initial costs

Whether you’re starting from scratch, upgrading from a DIY website, or recovering from a project that’s gone off track, getting a professional website often requires a significant upfront investment. For many small businesses, these high initial costs can make it harder to get online quickly and efficiently.

Challenge #2

High ongoing costs

Keeping a website up and running involves more than just launching it. There are regular tasks like hosting, security checks, software updates, and renewals—each adding to the ongoing costs. For many business owners, these recurring expenses can quickly add up, turning a website into a constant drain on both time and money.

Challenge #3

Fear of engagement

Many businesses hesitate to reach out for support because they’re worried about unexpected fees for simple updates. In traditional website ownership, even minor changes can come with a high price tag. With our website leasing model, support and updates are all included in one predictable monthly fee—so you can get the help you need without worrying about extra costs.

Challenge #4

Becoming obsolete

Technology and design standards evolve quickly—what worked for your website a few years ago might no longer meet modern expectations. As new features, design trends, and user demands emerge, businesses need to keep their websites up to date to stay competitive. With our website leasing model, you’ll receive a free redesign every three or four years, ensuring your site stays current with the latest technology and design advancements.

So, what's the solution?

You need a website, but you don’t want to deal with the challenges outlined above. Traditionally, there have been four ways to approach building and maintaining a website, but these too come with their own limitations.

DIY

Tempting, isn't it? DIY platforms can seem appealing due to their low cost and ease of use. However, they come with limited functionality and require ongoing effort to maintain. You’re responsible for updates, security, and design changes, which can be time-consuming and difficult without technical knowledge.

Freelancer

It sounds good in theory. Hiring a freelancer can offer flexibility and customisation, but it comes with unexpected challenges. Development timelines drag on longer than expected, and costs quickly spiral out of control as new features are added. Without a guarantee of ongoing support, many businesses find themselves paying more than anticipated, while waiting longer for the finished site.

Friends

Relying on a friend to build your website might seem like a low-cost option, but it comes at the expense of accountability and clear timelines. Without professional boundaries, projects can drag on, and your friend may not prioritise your site over their other commitments. The lack of clear structure can lead to missed deadlines and misunderstandings, leaving you with a site that takes longer to complete and does not fully meet your needs.

Agency

Agencies in Sydney typically charge between $5,000 to $15,000 for a website—an investment that can be tough for small businesses and non-profits to justify. While we also offer bespoke web design, this website leasing option was created to help smaller organisations get professional design and ongoing support without the financial strain of large upfront costs. With website leasing, you get all the benefits of a high-quality website for aa affordable monthly fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Depending on our workload and your requirements, you could be online in as little as a week! Average time is 2 weeks.

Website design, web apps and ongoing support. Everything you need to get online and stay online.

The term “lease” is something we all relate to, so that’s what we call it. However we hate the idea of being locked into something, so we take the risk and if you ever want to cancel, you can do so without any additional fees.

You have access to the site in case you want to do your own updates. However, website leasing means that technically we own it and you’re “leasing” it from us. If you choose to cancel, you are not permitted to take the website elsewhere.  Note though that we register the domain name to you, so you can do what you want with it.

Bespoke websites are for larger organisations or specific purposes. Think of it like the difference between a project home and architect-design home.

Updates are included so just tell us what you need and we’ll do it, usually within one business day. Each website leasing package includes an amount of yearly support and updates. We can also give you site access to make your own updates.

Is website leasing right for you?

Website leasing is a flexible and affordable solution for many small businesses and not-for-profits. We take on a limited number of clients to ensure the best service, so get in touch today to explore if it’s the perfect fit for your needs and to check current availability.
